What You Should Know Before You Paint Your Home – Part 2

What You Should Know Before You Paint Your Home – Part 2

Expert Advice from a Qualified Painting Contractor

Welcome again! In our second post, we pick up from where we left last week.

After you choose the paint, color, and sheen, the THIRD thing to do is calculate the quantity of paint you will need.

For indoors:

  1. Measure and multiply each wall’s width and length together for the total area.

  2. Divide by the paint can’s coverage rate in order to get the amount of paint you will need.

  3. Make sure to subtract the area of the windows and doors.

For outdoors:

  1. Measure and multiply each side’s height and length together for the total area.

  2. Divide by the paint can’s coverage rate in order to get the amount of paint you will need.

  3. It is best to include 10% over what is suggested by the paint manufacturer, who doesn’t include spillage or waste in their calculations.

Inventory your current paint tools and buy any supplies or equipment you may need. For your convenience, it is best to hire a professional painting contractor for your painting project as you will not have to lift a finger, and the only thing you should do is enjoy the final results and your newly painted home or commercial facility.

The FOURTH step is the preparation of the surface to be painted, typically the hardest part of any painting job:

For indoor painting projects:

All portable furniture should be moved. Group the largest pieces, and cover them with drop cloths in order to protect them. Dust and rinse the moldings, baseboards, ceiling, walls, and windows. Remove receptacle and switch plates. Use spackling paste to patch holes and cracks in your drywall. Sand any rough spots. When working with a professional, you can rest assured that he will do all that for you.

For outdoors:

Clean surfaces, remove loose paint, patch, caulk, put, and set nails in the following order:

  1. Scrape (sand if pre-existing paint is glossy)

  2. Wash

  3. Rinse

  4. Repair

Proper preparation before starting any painting project in Truckee, CA is key to ensuring the highest possible quality of the interior or exterior painting job, and we, at Burgess-Martin Painting Inc, know it. Let us manage all work for you! We are the painting contractor you need.
